New Research Group and Personnel Changes at Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies (IC\M/T)

ICMT Team

The Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies (IC\M/T) at the St. Pölten UAS has launched a new research group with a focus on Media Business – a structural change aimed at pooling its forces in the media area. In addition, there have been changes in the institute’s leadership and among the heads of the research groups.

New Research Group for Media Business

The St. Pölten UAS recently established a new research group on the topic of Media Business under the umbrella of the Institute of Creative\Media/Technologies. The group has its origins in the previous Institute of Media Economics, which no longer exists as a separate institute.

The new research group has set itself the task of analysing the transformation of media economics from a social science perspective, thus creating a basis for decisions related to business and media politics. The group’s work ranges from traditional industry analyses and surveys to state-of-the-art methods of technology-based reception research and data mining. Andreas Gebesmair is Head of the Research Group.

Joined Forces in the Media Sector

“Our university of applied sciences is well established in the media sector and has been one of the leading locations of higher education in this respect in the German-speaking world for years. In order to further expand this good position and hone our existing profile, we intend to pool all of our media expertise in the future. We will use the resulting synergies to promote the further qualitative and quantitative development of our institution. Our objective is to establish our university as an important driver of innovation for the future of media work in the European context”, explains Hannes Raffaseder, Chief Research and Innovation Officer of the St. Pölten UAS.

Changes in Personnel

The leadership structure of the institute has changed as well: since the beginning of the year, Wolfgang Aigner has been the sole Head of Institute after sharing this position with Markus Seidl over the past couple of years. Seidl continues to conduct research at the institute but has now taken over the position of Academic Director of the bachelor degree programme Creative Computing, which will welcome its first students in the autumn of 2021.

Moreover, Seidl has decided to give up his position of Head of the Media Computing Research Group at the IC\M/T, which has been taken over by Matthias Zeppelzauer who has been part of the institute’s research team since 2013. Georg Vogt is now interim Head of the Media Creation Research Group, replacing Franziska Bruckner while she is on maternity leave.
