Inclusive Media Work 3

Inclusive media work – we create media together with people with (learning) disabilities. We learn and teach:

  • How do I conduct an interview? Who prefers being the host, and who wants to take care of content?
  • Which genres and which medium do we want to create, and what is it like to stand in front of the camera? How do we deal with language or non-language?
  • Do I prefer to create an entertainment or news show?
  • Should I create a radio show, film a video, make a podcast, or stream on the internet?
  • Which media could we use during the coronavirus pandemic?

Scientific work at the St. Pölten UAS has already been dedicated to parts of inclusive media work such as participation, challenges to professionals, empowerment, or in media products. The results of this research shall serve as the basis for further and as yet un-researched issues. This project aims to continue this process with the objective to build a foundation for an expert community and develop a handbook on the topic in future serving as the first piece of expert literature of this kind.

What are the potential benefits of inclusive media work?

  • For the actors – people with a (learning) disability and/or mental illness
  • For the accompanying persons/supporters of inclusive media work
  • For recipients of inclusive media products and the firms and employers on the 1st and 2nd (media) labor market.

Which potential added values have been neglected in research? Can the project replicate the results of existing research? Do these results have lasting benefits? Where are possible barriers? Why is there a lack of implementation? How can we create the necessary requirements to guarantee access? How can we support people with (learning) disability in media and cultural production? Which roles can inclusive media work play in the practice and professions of Social Pedagogy and Social Work?
