Hirut Grossberger researches at the Carl Ritter von Ghega Institute for Integrated Mobility Research at UAS St. Pölten on topics related to mobility, sustainability, and infrastructure.
Her work includes innovative approaches such as:
- Using excavated soil in railway construction as clay material for noise protection walls
- Developing life-cycle analyses to make environmental impacts and costs transparent, with the goal of promoting the design and configuration of ecologically optimized products
- Collaborating with students to develop "serious games" to raise long-term awareness of climate protection
- Working on forward-looking projects like the design of future night train carriages
- Other research focuses include circular economy, digital product passports, and Industry 4.0
Additionally, Hirut Grossberger serves as an international coordinator at the Department of Railway Technology and Mobility.
From Ethiopia to St. Pölten
Hirut Grossberger studied agricultural engineering at Debub University in Awassa, Ethiopia, and completed master’s studies in water management and environment, as well as land management, infrastructure, and civil engineering at BOKU Vienna. Her research work took her to the agricultural research institute in Jima, Ethiopia, as well as to the Institute for Structural Engineering at BOKU. She has been with UAS St. Pölten since 2014.
