Acquiring Practical Experience in Studying Social Work

It is the responsibility of study programs in Social Work to sufficiently prepare students for the challenges that they will face in professional practice. Graduates should have fully developed competencies for action and should remain capable of acting in a specialist capacity when exercising their jobs. For this purpose, a study program needs to have practice phases anchored in its curriculum that are supervised by both practical educators at the higher education institution and by qualified practical instructors.

The focus of this bachelor project is on reflection and competence orientation in the internship for developing the highest possible professionalism in the course of study and on the associated requirements for training and internship providers. The plan is to use qualitative research methods to identify needs of and challenges faced by students during internships and to develop instruction manuals for conducting interviews in practical training.
