Expectations from apprenticeships

What do young people expect when they start an apprenticeship? Training companies such as STRABAG AG engage with this question.

Continuity and knowledge transfer

Training young people can have many benefits for companies. Ideally, it results in employees that are well qualified for the working world. To make the best use of this potential, in-depth knowledge about what apprentices expect from their training and what reasons might convince them to drop out of a programme are needed.

Identifying and expectations

The goal of this project is to identify and describe exepectations of apprentices. For that a concept for interviews with apprentices during and after the apprenticeship is designed and developed. In addition, reasons for resignation are being documented. Information is collected through digital questionnaires, group interviews and individual interviews are. Communication channels and frequencies between the company and the apprentices are analysed.

Analysis and results

Based on the results of this project, suggestions for improvments and furtherdevelopment of the apprentice training are derived, taking into account existing company structures, processes and potentials. Outcomes include a guideline for the execution of exit interviews with apprentices.
