Instructions and Documentation for Assembly Steps in Special Cases

Problem Description

KBA manufactures printing machines for bank notes that have to meet high global standards. While every produced machine contains a large proportion of standard components and modules, every new production is ultimately an individual assignment. For this reason, some assembly steps can always be classified as “special cases” as they do not correspond to the usual assembly processes. Every production order consists of a wide range of individual “common standard assembly steps” as well as the occasional special-case steps. So far, the information for special cases always had to be complicatedly extracted from an Excel list. Then the special case was carried out based on this list and the further assembly process was continued directly without documenting any feedback on the completed special case.

Implementation

Through the order number, a mobile application receives all information concerning the assembly steps of an order (not only special cases). This information is compiled in a list including a checklist function. This already constitutes a previously unknown added value for the staff member who can (optionally) check every completed assembly step in a mobile application and thereby gain an overview of the progress thus far.

However, it is in the processing of special cases that the application reveals its biggest advantage. Every special case is marked red in the list. If it is selected, the user receives targeted information on the individual steps of the current special-case assembly step. Once the task is completed, the user can optionally use the camera to take a picture of the complete assembly and store it centrally with the order.
